Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum.

I grow my Catts, along with my other orchids, indoors. Most of my vandaceous plants are outdoors...some (seedlings) are growing indoors and will go outdoors next spring.

Hi, & Welcome,
I live in San Jose and all my orchids are outside from May until Nov. Since you are in a warmer climate in SoCal then your outside may extend the whole year. When the night time temps stay consistantly below 50 I bring the majority of my orchids in for the season. The cyms and a couple of others stay outside all year long but are protected when the night time temps dip below 35.

Hi Hummer344:
In Southern California. the night temperature sometime drop to 40. most of my orchids survived except the phal. it failed but I have good louck on dendrobium phal , oncidium, cattaleya and cymbidium it slow down in winter but back to life when temperature rise in summer. some variety better than others. now after 15 years later all my orchids left are all cold temperature tolerant.

Hello from Florida paulhsieh. Most of my orchids are cattleya also. I have close to 20 (am most interested in the spotted leopord type lately), and another 20 of phals, oncidiums, and brassias. I grow mine on a covered patio, 3 sides screened 25' x 10' space. We're in totally different climates so it will be interesting to read how you obtain the conditions needed to keep your plants happy.

Look forward to seeing your plants!

P.S. I lived in southern Calif. until a few years ago in Encino (L.A. County).

I am SO jealous that you can grow catts out of doors! I bought 3 babies in June I've already lost one and am nursing the other 2 on a windowsill facing SW behind a net curtain. Doing well so far but can I keep them warm enough over winter to flower? Judi
