Talking Hello -- new to orchids

Hi All!

My name is Becky (but everyone just calls me Bec). I've always thought orchids were beautiful, but never was adventurous enough to bring them into my home. A couple months ago I attended an orchid show and brought a couple home. One is (and please excuse me, as I don't really know much about orchids at all) the common orchid that most people think of, and I can't think of the name for it at the moment. The other is something like Lucidia discolor. I seem to be having relative success at the moment, but am glad to have found a forum so that I can learn more.

I did give my plants names (it's something silly that I do), so please again excuse me if this is just not "proper". It's so hard to remember all those fancy names.

Beyond my orchids, I don't do much with plants (horrors, I know! ). I have a love of day lillies and have numerous ones in my yard. But I may really come to love orchids!

Can't wait to learn!!

Bec

edited to add that the other orchid is Palaenopsis, I think....

Is it a Phalanopsis? That's the most common orchid you see being sold. I grow day lilies too. Nice to have on the forum and I wish you the best with your new orchids. Welcome!
