Smile hello orchid lovers

a neighbour kindly gave me a pink orchid two days ago and i am hooked. however, there is no tag and i think i should start by getting an identification of my lovely pink orchid before i start asking for advice from others. i live in Bonnie Scotland and at the moment the orchid is in my bright bathroom - i believe they like moist conditions? i look forward to learning from anyone who has time to answer. thanks in advance

Welcome Tabcat!
Looks like you have ra phalaenopsis (or at least similar hybrid - might have doritaenopsis in it) type orchid - also called moth orchid. Lots of people grow them on the forum so we have tons of free words of wisdom. There are culture sheets on this forum and you can also check the ones on the American Orchid Society - http://www.aos.org/aos/orchids/page01.aspx - and other places on the internet as well. For starters - no direct sunlight and careful not to over water - better to under than over(water). Enjoy! mike

Welcom Tabcat. Looks like you've already been given some excellent starter information. I love Phals. They're easy to grow and put out such a nice display. You'll get great advice here and have fun too.

Welcome Tabcat from Scotland! You have a beautiful flower there and we can all help you to get it to thrive. Really not that hard. Does the bathroom where your phal lives have a lot of light????

Hi, welcome to the forum. That's a lovely plant, I have one that looked very similar in bloom. Mine is a Dtps. (Doritanopsis) so I am inclined to agree with mike. There are a lot of new Dtps. hybrids that look like that these days, I think they are very beautiful.
What a nice neighbor, I want some like that. My neighbors are grumpy and very concerned about their landscape (I saw one cut their grass with scissors the other day lol), they are currently trying to get ME to share my orchids cause they don't have any and some of mine are outside in my outdoor space. They are drooling, but I can't bring myself to share just yet, I need to see some more of the orchid doctor first.
