| Same story, 1 lead to more. Hello everybody, My name is Steve. I'm live in Ontario Canada. I am a relatively new orchid hobbyist. I started with a Phalaenopsis about 5 years ago, I added a couple more over the next few years and have just bought 3 more in the last couple of months. These 3 came with no information, which brings me here. I need some help identifying all 3, so that I can learn how to take care them properly. I have searched the Internet to no avail. I have some pictures that I will post when I get to my home computer. I have spent a little time reading around here and have already gained some useful knowledge. What a great site!!! I am excited that I stumbled on to it today. P.S. My other orchids are, a sherry baby, a lady slipper, and an ondoglossum. Cheers, SteveB |

| Ah, now I know where you are. You're between Brampton and Kitchener just north of Cambridge. The wife and I took a mini holiday about 5 yrs. ago around that area. |

| Welcome Steve!! This is a great site with all levels of experience with every orchid imaginable from all corners of the world. Couldn't ask for more! BTW - My inlaws live in Buffalo NY and whenever we visit I always make a trip to Toronto. Beautiful city and we especially enjoy the huge Science Museum just outside of Toronto. Lord knows there is nothing to do in Buffalo.....

| Hello Cindy, It's good to hear there is some local support. I have gone to the show in Cambridge for the last 2 years. I bought my sherry baby and my violetta von holm there. I plan on going again this year. I am not sure if I will have room for another orchid, but I am in some serious need of potting material. Now that I have had some time to read all the wonderful information available here, I have a general idea of what I should be doing/buying. I think! Sorry for the delay in resoponding. I tried earlier but it said I had a 5 post maximum. Must be a new member thing to prevent any problems. Steve |

| Steve, you might consider joining the Central Ontario Orchid Society as well, I just did, we meet the last Monday of every month except for July. There is a fellow who runs the emporium there at the meetings we can buy orchid supplies quite cheaply from him, but most important there is always members selling their extra orchids Ya!!!!! I will be at the orchid show helpling out as I was volunteered!!!! but thats ok it means I have to go to the show no excuses!!! talk at ya soon Cindy |

| Yeah, Well, you see, my wife has some restriction on the number of orchids I can have right now. We just bought our first home in June and the "hunny-to-do" list is fairly large. We agreed (by that I mean she told me) that the list will occupy enough of my time as is. I have 10 orchids right now, 6 this year alone (because I have more room in the new home). That's not a bad compromise. Of course I will get a new one from our local show, but that will be it, until I get some decorating and minor renos done. We are still filling some rooms, so the major purchases are also eating up the orchid funds. The little table we have sitting in our bay window is full. It's kinda hard to explain why I am buying a new orchid Stand/Shelf/Table when we still don't have a dinning room table, bedroom set, couch, lamps, ect.ect. ugh. Suddenly feeling sick. So, I will be happy with the little patch I have. It will give me a chance to learn about each one properly. I have started a spreadsheet to take notes and keep a record. I think this will be beter in the long run rather than rushing in too fast and getting in over my head. Steve Last edited by Steve B; 09-11-2007 at 09:54 AM. Reason: typo |

| Steve, I commend you. I also lay bets, your best laid plans will fall by the wayside. As you complete each task, there will be an orchid for the achievement. Not to mention going to Home Depot, Lowes, you will walk through the flower department, you will bring home an orchid.... ![]()
