Newbie

Hello,
I am new to this forum. I live in San Jose and have approx. 60 orchids.(this fluxuates depending on what I have killed vs. what I have bought). I don't grow any one particular spieces but enjoy the cats the most. Because of limited space(my wifes llimits. LOL) I am now buying only orchids that are long lasting and fragrant.

I look forward to participating in this merry group

Thanks

Good Morning,
Thanks for the greetings. Now a question. I have two phal's that have put out spikes from the center of the plant. I know that this is not good for the plant and it may die. When the first one did it I thought it was just an odd happening. Now that a second one has done it I am wondering if its just a REAL ODD happening or is it something that I am doing. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

Welcome Hummer - I have a husband who THINKS he 'must be obeyed.' (me and my Golden Girls know the truth) Recently he said to me "Just HOW many orchids do you think you can handle?" I told him I would let him know AFTER I got there. You will get lots of sympathy regarding # of plant restrictions!

Uttt Oh on the spikes....I don't know what causes this but I know it is not good! There is a thread on this very subject somewhere on this forum.

BTW - it helps greatly to put where you are from on your profile, including country and state.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I live about an hour or so away from you. As a matter of fact, I was at the Express Orchid Exhibition in San Jose a week and half ago and came home with 6 new orchids.

And, yes, us wifeys are the boss! In my case, hubby doesn't dare to point out I have enough orchids or we don't have the space.

To Phalpal, I have updated my on line info to reflect my location. I live in San Jose, CA which is 50 S of San Francisco. Sunset Growing region 16. Nice warm days and cool evenings.

To Arleneg, I was at the same show but only bought one. If you look at the picture gallery you will see it. I titled it "Screaming Orchid". Cute. I inadvertently uploaded it twice and am still trying to figure out how to delete one of them.
Thanks for all the hellos
