| Thanks for the Welcome!! Just wanted to thank everyone for the welcome that I have recieved Fred, I heard about this forum at our monthly Orchid Society Meeting and I have to say that 3 of us Tasmanian's are from the same Society. I am sure I will enjoy being a part of Orchidgeeks.com and hope to learn heaps and have some fun too. Balero, well I think once a Tasmanian always Tasmanian, but I dont have any scars( I think you will know what I am referring to?) I am hoping to get to know a few of you through our mutual interest and swap thoughts and knowlege. I have quite a variety of Orchids(all cool growing ) but my main interest is in Masdevallias. I have over 200 different Masdevallia's, both species and hybrids. |

| Thanks, orchid_lord. Yes, it is . It is 'blue diamond' discus. This one is very shiny when not stressed. Becomes cobalt blue when disturbed. Can anyone tell me how cold it gets in Tasmania and for how long? It seems like the orchids like Taz.'s climate (and weather) |

| Hi and welcome from Missouri, USA! ![]()

They take on the form of little birds, of lizards, of insects, a man, a woman, sometimes like a clown who excites our laughter. They represent the image of a lazy tortoise, a melancholy toad, an agile, ever-chattering monkey. Nature has formed orchid flowers in such a way that, unless they make us laugh, they surely excite our greatest admiration." Jacob Breynius |

| how cold does Tassie get ? well in winter some ( atot ) of paces it snows. Here in the north west coast we get anywhere from Oc 32 F some night here it does get colder. Day time temps anywhere up to 14c 57.2 F in winter. The winters are very cold. It is not good to have any orchids out side during winter. Southery winds in winter that blow here in winter time come straight off the snow. |

| Fred, Your post made me chuckle. "Very cold" is a relative term. I used to live in the US in the state of Michigan. Usually in January it never gets above freezing. Sometimes, as I was scraping the ice off my car windshield in the morning, my breath would freeze onto my moustache. Brrrrrrrrr......
