Hi from Wichita, KS

Hello all,
My fiancee gave me my very first orchid yesterday! Yay! It's a phalaenopsis, a white one.
I'm woefully ignorant about orchids but trying to get up to speed.
I love this plant and spent all night looking up things up about orchids but I'm still afraid that I'm going to kill it.
So I'm off to read the boards.

Atriel

Atriel, it's been one month for me, my "mother" orchid being a white phal, and now, thanks to this forum, I have three orchids and four african violets! And they are surviving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the forum for you. Read and enjoy.

PS: Find the thread on the bamboo skewer watering method. Sorry, I would attach it, but I don't know how to do that yet. Look in the newbie section, Cynthia Prescott will get you straight on that. If I'm not mistaken, this valuable lesson is right near the top. Well worth the read. Welcome, Welcome.

Hi Atriel,

Welcome to the forum. It is a small world sometimes. I was born in Hutchinson, KS, my dad is from Mt Hope, my mom is from Burrton, and My granny and aunt live in Witchita. GO STATE! (unless you are a Jayhawk fan of course lol) You can find all kinds of great information for your plant here.

hi again everyone and thank you for the kind words - I'm starting to feel better about taking care of the orchid.

Brookn, I'm actually a KS transplant. I moved here from South Carolina - so I'm still adjusting the differences in weather, etc.

Thanks again everyone, I think I'm officially addicted.

I have some pictures and a question that I want to post but I need to get a couple of posts in before it'll let me.
So I'm bumping up my post count.
Sorry about this, I'll delete these as soon as I get it up to the right amount.

Hello Atriel, Welcome to the forum.

You only have one orchid. As the number of orchids increases your number of posts will increase too. I don't think just 'bumping' the number of posts serves any useful purpose

May be there is some benefit which I may not be aware of.

Best wishes with the orchid(s).

Hi Pikevi,
In this case there was a purpose.
I'm a new member that had less than 5 posts.
I had a question that I wanted to include pictures with.
I up loaded the pictures to my server and then tried to include them in my post but since I had under 5 posts it wouldn't let me post something with external links.
So you see ... a purpose.
