Newbie from S. Carolina

Hi, I'm Lisa, aka boxerfan. I am new to Orchids having just received one as an Easter gift from my partner of 12 years. I'm quite fascinated with this plant and am reading everything I can get my hands on to learn proper care. I have two friends who grow orchids and they have been very helpful so far. Aside from my newfound interest in orchids, I'm interested in antique and vintage collectibles and maintain a web store. I love to surf the net and read. I have two wonderful dogs, a Boxer and a Boykin Spaniel and my partner and I have developed our yard into a Certified Wildlife Habitat and are consantly working on that. I'm excited about having this opportunity to interact with experienced (and not so experienced) Orchid enthusiasts. Have a great Day. Lisa

Welcome Lisa. You've come to the right place for orchid tips. You'll soon become addicted, like the rest of us. Good luck with your new orchid.

Hi Boxerfan, I'm a Chowfan... Welcome to the Forum.

Are you saying that your orchid has no name? (Did you get it without a tag?)

Welcome Lisa! The most important things I did as a new grower were to ask lots and lots of questions and to not be embarassed about asking any question. At some point even the most advanced grower was new to orchids.

Enjoy the forum and happy growing!

Name of my orchid and orchid number 2

I didn't mean that my orchid came without a tag. It is a hybrid phalaenopsis (the rest of the name is smeared), I just need a name to call it like my dogs are Cooper and Riis. Also, yesterday I got a new orchid, also a phalaenopsis Hybrid (Long Pride Isabel). I think I am well on my way to being hooked. Thanks for the warm welcome. Lisa

Some of mine has gotten such names like Mitsubishi, Brawny, Snow-white, Puncidium, etc. because my husband is unable to learn their real name, though he can remember dozens of phone numbers...
I'm sure you'll find a nice name to your pretty yellow harlequin.

Hi Lisa - I am fairly new to the forum also and have really enjoyed it. Everyone has something to contribute. Just for the record, I have two golden retrievers - Jessie and Sydney. I lived in Simpsonville when it was a one stoplight town! Now I have a cousin who lives in Hilton Head, SC. Welcome and happy chatting!
