Smile Pinkdaybreak

Greetings from Tennessee,
I have had several orchid plants over the years, and until I moved into this house nine years ago I could make them bloom. I could never understand why they would never rebloom. I just found out that you should not use water that has been treated with salt. We had a water softener that used salt. It died, so I have some hope that I can grow them again.
The bug has really bit me and I have found a wealth of information on this forum. I am looking forward to meeting with everyone and making new friends. If you have any advise for me on growing orchids, I am open to anything. Thanks, Pinkdaybreak

if you have access to the softener, change from sodium salt to potasium salt, which is a constituant of fertilizer.

Cynthia,Thank you so much for the advise on potasium salt. We are going to buy another water softener so I will look for one that takes potasium salt. Did I understand that you do not need to fertilize if you use potasium salt? Thanks, Pinkdaybreak

No, you still have to fertilize, as the other 2 ingredients, nitrogen and Phospherous are still needed. Almost all water softeners take both kinds of salt, but checking to be sure is a good idea.
