Hi Dennis I really am a newbie- I have 2 phalaenopises sp?- not sure what
the correct plural is- last year both my plants bloomed and I couldn't find in
any of the orchid care books I had what to do with the stem after they
bloomed. I did an experiment and cut I stem to about 1 1/2 inch and left
the other alone- the one plant is producing buds but the other isn't.
Will the one I cut ever bloom again?

yes it will. cutting the spike above the forth node will usally put out a new branch, but it is also stressful on the plant and if it does send one out and blooms the flowers are usally smaller and less flowers than the first one. if it did not grow another branch and it has been awhile cut it off down at the plant about a inch away this will put all its energy back into the plant . it sounds like it might just be skipping a cycle no big deal. now will be a good time to check out the root system and the potting media. there is a thread on the different types you can use with a description of each, as well a thread on semi hydropnics which i am using with great success. i have a phal with two keikeis and 7 flower spikes on it that is growing like a weed in the semi hydroponics. if you get a chance update your profile so everyone knows your area,as growing conditions are as different as night and day depending on where you are from. feel free to ask as many questions as you want and respond to any threads participation is what keeps these forums going
