Hello growers
My name is fred and i live in Tasmania Australia
I have been growing Orchids for many years now I have around 100 plants all small growers.
Mini cats, Sarcs, Prom,s, Dendrochilums, Sophronitis, Celogynes, Pleuros, BLC x Pots and a few Cyms just to name a few.
I look forward to chatting with you all.

Kevin here, Melbourne Paph grower. I understand Tassie has additional quarentine restrictions. How do you get orchids?

Hi Kevin
We can buy plants here also I have brought them back from Melbourne also.
Quarentine restritions are not to bad they are changeing them so it will be harder to get plants into the state.
Most of my plants come from N.S.W and Vic.
I think what Quarentine are trying to stop is orchids comeing into the state via the Spirit Of Tasmania.
I hope this explanes thing a bit for you

I'd be curious as to what Dendrochilums you have. I've got a wenzelii and a formosanum, and I'd love to compare notes about their care.

Dendrochilums well i only have one or two but i will list there names for you
1 is Wenzellii
2 is Ramber from Indonezia
3 is Magnum
4 is Cobbianum ''royal gold''
5 is Javierense
6 is Longifolium
7 is Javieri
8 is Uncatum
as you can see just one or two
I grow most in Tasmanian spahgnum moss.

Hi Fred,

It's going to be MORE difficult to get orchids into Tassie!?!?!?! I'm perplexed. I'm afraid I don't understand what that accomplishes other than frustrating decent orchid hobbiests like your self.

By the way, I've been to Hobart twice; Tasmania produces some of the best wine and cheese I've had. Oh and I love the deep fried whole potatoes at the Ball & Chain.

Hi Kevin
Hobart is 300 ks away from my house I live passed Devonport.
Yes they are makeing it alot harder to bring plants into the state.
I just got back from melbourne a few days ago and i brought a few plants back with me ( who said that ) shhhhhh
I do know of two places where I can buy orchids here one is in Sulpher Creek and the other is down Hobart wat at New Norfolk.
Sulpher Creek gets the plants from N.S.W I know this because I know the owners of the nersary.
As far as down Hobart way I dont know where the plants come from.
The idea of new importation rules is down right silly in my opinion.
It only will make things alot harder for all orchid growers here.
