First post and Hello

Hi All,
This is my first post. And actually I just joined the forum this morning.
Just a bit about myself. I live in Illinois. About 20 miles southwest of Peoria. I'm married for 30 years to the same man!! HAHAHAHA!!! I have 2 grown daughters. The oldest girl moved home with my 2 grandkids about a year ago so it's close quarters around here.
I have about 19 orchids. 3 in bloom at the moment. I raise dens, catts, phal, oncidiums, and I just bought 2 phap. One is a nice size plant with a wonderful bloom on it. The other is just a baby but I wait with bated breath for the day it grows big enough to bloom for me.
Most of my orchids are living in a mini greenhouse in my frontroom sitting proudly in front of my south window. If it wasn't winter here there's no way those babies would be in that window but the sun isn't that hot this time of year. And my 3 blooming plants are in that greenhouse so I'm guessing they like the location well enough.
Although I seem to be doing pretty good with my orchids-- blooms/new growth I'm always looking for more growing information and usually have more questions then any one person can answer for me.
I'd also love to get to know anyone in my area that grows orchids. None of my friends or family are interested so it would be lovely to have an orchid friend close by. I just went to a show in Peoria over the last weekend with my husband and he was bored silly so that made my enjoyment a bit hard to find.
Thanks and I'll be looking forward to hearing from you all. Vicky

Welcome Vicky - I have the same issue out here in Oregon - wife bored semi-silly at both Orchid society meetings I've drug her to - which brings up something - have you checked to see if there is an Orchid Society nearby? Great opportunity to meet new friends with common interests, learn about everything orchid, and even get new plants at great discounted prices. Here is a link to some orchid societies in your area - http://www.orchidsocietyofminnesota....%20Midwest.htm mike

Hi Vicky. I'm also new to this forum and fairly new at growing orchids. I live in Tinley Park, which is a south suburb of Chicago. I've been to Peoria several times over the years - nice little town. I wish I had known about the Orchid Show. I might have made a trip down there. Oh well, maybe next time. Hope you enjoy this forum as much as I do. Good luck with your orchids.

P.S. Update your user profile to include your location.
