Hello from Lubbock, Texas

Hi,

I recently registered on the forum. Although not new to growing orchids, I am new to my present collection.

My family moved a number of times during the past few years and one of those moves was to California - and I couldn't take my plants there because they wouldn't allow live plants across their borders.

Now that I have retired - with a new home and a new large sunroom - I am eagerly and rapidly researching and buying new orchids.

Flowers have always been a passion for me - and orchids in particular. I have a photo blog that features photos of flowers and especially orchids.

I am really looking forward to participating in the forum and getting to know you.

Jean

Wow Jean! Welcome. Nice blog, nice website and nice pictures. The cymbidium pics are great. I just have one mini-cymbidium that someone gave me this summer and didn't know what the color was (and the plant didn't look too healthy either.). I was cautioned by other forum people to not repot and cleanup until spring in case it did bloom. Am so excited that it now has four flower spikes and the first one is nearly all out! Just went and took a quick snapshot of what the flower looks like to share - dark and cloudy today - so had to use flash. mike

Hi, mayres,

How lucky you are! It is a beautiful flower and a great gift. To think that you got four flower spikes the very first year that you had it.

Thanks for your reply and your welcome.

Hi! Welcome to a great place to discuss orchid addiction. I live in San Antonio now, but I grew up on the high plains not far from Lubbock in a little town called Muleshoe. Lashelle

Well, don't anyone hold up on bringing plants to California now. I carry plants back and forth between CA and AZ all the time. The are not checking cars any more at the border. Not even someone to wave you thru. They used to be real strict during the fruit fly years, but apparently that is not a problem any more.

Hi Jean

I'm new too and live in Illinois. I never had much luck with orchids in the past, although I'm a great gardener. Now, I've learned a little patience and found that orchids do require time and patience. I'm also retired and now I have the time to investigate and experiment with some different types of orchids. Perhaps you'll share some of your orchid knowledge with all of us. For some reason, I wasn't able to view your blog and see the photos, however, I'll try again. Welcome!
