Smile Hello from Brisbane Australia

Have been growing Orchids for a while (15 years) mainly Phalaenopsis & strictly for pleasure. Weather hear is great for growing the tropical varieties. Have joined forum cause I'm having a few problems & the fokes here seem to know a thing or 2.

Welcome Becky - there are a lot of folks here who grow phals - what kind of problems are you having? Chances are pretty good that many of us have gone through the same problems once or twice......mike

Hi & welcome to the forum, Becky! I don't have much experience with Phals, but am sure someone else does.

Welcome Becky from Adelaide.

I have mine in the lounge facing north behind verticle blinds so they don't get direct sun. Have a look on my Web site under Phalaenopsis to see my little baby:http://www.users.on.net/~op_ink/AD/P...is_Orchid.html.

Water in the morning with a weak fertilizer, I use Yates Thrive liquid Orchid mix. Put a wooden satay stick into the potting mix and rewater when the stick becomes almost dry to the touch on your cheek ( a trick I picked up on this Forum).

They enjoy warm days and cool nights, mine cools at night due to our ducted R/C Air Con.

I have cut the stems right down after the last flowers died, to about 15mm from the base of the plant, as I am hoping for some keikis (baby plants growing from the spikes) next season.

Once they stop flowering, they usually "rest" for around 6 months, spike for 3 months, and flower for around 3 months.

Mine is really thriving and new leaf growth is occurring at a rapid rate.

I only went into Phals this year, and if I can grow them, anyone can.
