Hello all

Hi, I just found this form yesterday so i am super happy. YAY! I have a few plants (according to me) And too many (according to my husband).
Currently i have 5 orchids. 4 Phalaenopsis and 1 oncidium. I had 4 more phals but they all kicked the bucket. About 6 months ago i was still living with my mom (wasent married yet) And her plants have all these little white bugs running around in the dirt. Very tiny (ive been told they are spider mites by a florist) I dunno but i kept all my plants in my room and away from her buggy plants. Until one day she decided my plants were pretty and she took them and decorated her house. The bark in my orchid pots was covered in white bugs ant they ended up loving the taste of the roots. 4 were dead within a month. I had only just repotted them and now i had to buy new mix disenfect all my pots cut off roots and clean them with ivory soap. Then they were repotted again in a room where there were no plants. They are now just recovering. Phewf.

Sorry for the rant but that is the jist of my orchid history.

Spider mites do not run around in the mix, are not usually white, pale green sometimes, and can not be seen with the the naked eye, except as a speck of dust slowly moving on one of their web threads. So they weren't spider mites, but may have been some kind of other mite I am not familiar with. Actually, don't know what they might have been. Many mix inhabitants like it when the mix is broken down and ready for replacement.

Hi & welcome to the forum skabooya. I look forward to seeing pics of your orchids after they have recovered from the 'mites'.
