Hello from Colorado

Got hooked by a orchidGeek_com from garden web forum. So here I am.
I live in a high altitude dry low humidity (about 35% humidity) snow in winter with wild animals roaming (racoons, deer, fox ...) so, growing orchids is a challenge. I grow mine indoors. I have killed about 4 phals due to overwatering (it took me time and forum reading before I realize what I did) and, a beautiful miltonia (which I was not aware was needing about 80% humidity). I see old friends from other forums. starwhiz

Hey Strawhiz, glad you decided to stop by! Yes some of the most important things you can do is to read and read about orchids, and then apply that knowledge to grow them. Watch and listen to your plants they are just like people. What happens when you stay outside too long in the sun? You get sunburned of course! Same deal with orchids.

Strictly phals- Yes you do have the option for a custom avatar...Go to "user cp" up at the left hand corner, then click on "edit avatar", then click on "browse" and upload your image.

Im from Colorado Springs. Are you from fort collins? There was a mike from washington who has relatives there and Im guessing it could be you. If not, never mind. I met some guys from fort collins and boulder orchid society and they brought nice flowering orchids and won award at the denver orchid society fall show. So, where are you in Colorado?

No leo.......that's not me! I don't belong to the society.
I do grow inside in the winter...outside in my GH in the summer.
I grow with HID lights in my basement. My favorite humidifier (new to me this year) is an ultrasonic one.
I have great success reblooming Catts.
Pretty good at reblooming Phals and Paphs.
Oncidiums?........forget about it!
Kathy

ok I was just guessing. There are members of the society who are taking part in net orchid forums and sharing their ideas. With your success, you should be part of the society. It would be fun. I think Denver orchid society would be a good society to join as they are big and in central location for other colorado orchid societies. It's just like your other family, the orchid family. It's nice to know someone from the area in this forum. We could learn from your success stories in the forum. Thanks for sharing.

I have never joined the local society, mainly because I'm not a joiner (of anything!)
But I do know some of the members.
