Red face Help me I have Brown Spots on my Orchid Leaves

Hi Everyone,

I am house sitting a small greenhouse of beautiful Orchids for the next 2 years. I have a green thumb but have never kept an Orchid alive. I noticed a note on this plant that says Leaf Spot Fungus. The plant is a Oncidium, and it is in bloom. I have tryed to capture the spots in these photos. Please advise me on what I can do if anything to keep this thing alive and healthy. I would prefer it be as wholesome as possible. I have breast cancer and am trying to limit chemicals as much as possible.

Thanks!

Some varieties of Oncidiums have freckles like people. It's normal and not anything to be alarmed about. The thing to do is to observe the spots and see if they grow in size. If so then you have a fungus problem, if not it's a freckle.

My first oncidiums had freckles and I almost killed it trying to "cure" what turned out to be nothing at all. Also, I didn't see any yellow around the spot which is another thing to look for.

Also, do you spray/mist these plants? If so, do it in the mornings so the plant has time for it to evaporate and the water doesn't sit on the leaf all night.

If you want to be sure whether or not it's spreading, outline a few with a marker. If it stays within the lines it's not spreading.
