Hello!!!

I am a newbie from Texas. I would love to learn from anyone who know about orchids (that would be everyone in here). Right now I have a few orchids and would like to start a collection soon.

It's great to meet you! This is a good place to learn and just make some friends with similar interests! It wont be long before your small collection becomes a large one!

Right now, I have a brassidium, 3 dendrobium, 2 blooming phal, 2 not blooming phal. I am interested in growing my collection with something easy to grow first and will eventually try harder to grow orchids later. I am wondering what I could grow outside (in the shade of course) in Dallas, TX.

Cool. I read some book that stated that there are 3 kinds of orchids: warm, medium, cool. That's why I ask.

Yup you are about cool, warm, and intermediate/medium Since you are in texas and want to grow outside I would suggest going with warm growing orchids and maybe a few intermediate Many types of different orchids will fall into those two categories I think we have some forum members from Texas on here so maybe they could give you some good recommendations they have had good results with growing outside Another thing that might be able to give you some more recomendations on plants to grow outdoors there is if you have a local orchid society So depending on where you live in Texas these people could be a great resource for you as well as us wonderful geeks lol. They generally have speakers and special events and orchid shows, most aos societies have raffles and many take group field trips too! Here is what I was able to find in Texas:
