Patlee the problem isn't the six I ordered from Jerry, but the seven I got at the San Diego show (including the Fdk. After Dark bulb!) last week AND the six I bid on from Ellens Estate sale.

I will have two days of re-potting to do and I DO NOT KNOW where I am going to put them!! Thank goodness orchid show season is almost over. Now....if I can get my husband to pull the spark plugs on our computer.....

Connie,

You're not alone! In the last week or so, I've gotten orchids from my orchid society (via raffle), ordered a few minis from J&L Orchids, bought one from San Jose orchid show, ordered my species project plant, and 6 from Jerry. I've been brainstorming on where to put them in my orchid room! Aaahhhh....if only I have the funds for a greenhouse in the back yard.

Oh heavens I forgot about the two I got from my local orchid club! According to Dave I 'won' them. Actually, I did, just moments after I spent $10 on raffle tickets. Still a bargain!

I am happy to know I am not alone. It helps to confess to all of you because I never lie to my husband. It's a good thing he has learned not to ask and/or I have learned to reply "you'd rather not know."

It's probably best that we don't have the room and/or money for a greenhouse, because then it would be a BIGGER one, ANOTHER one, a bigger YARD for ANOTHER one; when would it end??!

Oh, I forgot to mention one more -- the Fdk. After Dark.

Yes, it's probably the best not to have the funds for a greenhouse. Otherwise, we'll want a bigger g/h, house, etc.. LOL

Today I got the hardware part of my order from Jerry. I bought some 20-20-20, Nutracote, Hydro pellets and I am guessing the half gallon Jug I my worm-tea. Anyway, Jerry is a freaking artist when it comes to packaging. Everything was so tight and well placed that I must give him props for that! I am still waiting on the other half of my order. The post office must have overlooked something.

LOL Connie. I sure hope there are no "newbies" around who might think that any of us can be supportive to their orchidaholic tendancies. This group will always say, "Hey, what the heck? Get another one!"

I also ordered your first three picks and a couple others. I hope Jerry will be posting more info for us in this section. It appears we lost some of his original posts.

As far as the paph thing is concerned: They were probably my least favorite orchid a few years ago. Now, I can't wait to get another one! I got a new one from Parkside a few weeks ago and another one from Oak Hills with my species order. Go Paphs! (Do you think Kevin has some "mind-altering" technique at work?

I received my order from Jerry today--eek, I'm scared I'm going to mess up and kill these babies!

I got
Den Cathy Beck
Enc. Atronecium 'Mother's Day' x Enc. cordigera 'Chocolate Violets'
Blc. Chia Lin 'New City'
Slc India Rose Sherwood 'Red Face'
Den Red Emperor 'Prince'

A couple weren't labeled, so I emailed Jerry for confirmation.

I'm looking for the post from Jerry about plants he's sending out--I think he had some care tips in it but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone remember where it is? (Or am I imagining it???)

Marcia: You're not imagining the post. I think those tips disappeared with forum problems. I too need some help with the Enc. I bought. Hopefully, Jerry will weigh in soon.

Talking

Mine arrived yesterday afternoon. Woohoo! I got....

Den. Cathy Beck
Phal. Naples nights x Petite rose x Glad melinda
Blc. Sunbow x deckeri
Blc. Sunbow (C. latiaca 'Kodama' x Slc. Pokalani 'Cherry')
Rdcm. Spunky x Rdcm. Mystique 'Strawberry Daquiri'
Rdcm. Mystique 'Strawberry Daquiri'

Although there were two unlabeled, I know they're Den. Cathy Beck and the Phal. Naples. I didn't get the two Tolumnias I wanted. However, the ones Jerry picked are really cute.

I've taken pics, but haven't had time to put them on my computer. I should be able to post them (incl. the species pics) this weekend.

This weekend, I surely will be busy repotting and rearranging my growing areas.

Ellen you are too funny!! Why do I feel like I'm being a bad orchid Mommy if I wait a week to get new babies into a fresh, clean pot??? I just CANNOT keep my hands off them!

Today is the beginning of a heat wave; we went from 65 and sunny to 93 and REALLY sunny. Too sunny and hot for me and my Cyms. I had to do some mad scrambling in my pj's this morning to move them out of direct sun. My neighbors must think I'm totally crazy....well, that and they know I like flannel pj's.

Pictures!

Den. Cathy Black

And B.Little Stars (I only got 2 plants)

If I did anything wrong with the re-potting, planted too high or too low, someone please pipe up. I've never potted an orchid before.

Same up here in north central Calif. Yesterday, our high temp was 80F (26C). Today, forecast high temp is 90F (32C). I'm not looking forward to summer! When the temps returns to the low 70s, I'm going to enjoy it as much I can.

For those of you interested in the Naples Nights phal, I bought two of these about 9 months ago. One of them started blooming about a month ago... two big branching flower spikes! It is gorgeous! It is a plant that I would highly recommend.

My hybrid order finally arrived! I got:
Den. Cathy Beck-(I ordered 2- 1 for a friend- but he must have been running short)
Enc. Atronecium 'Mother's Day' x Enc. cordigera 'Chocolate Violets'
Phal Naples nights x (Petite rose x Glad melinda)
Paph Delenatii
Blc. Goldenzelle Lemon Chiffon AM/HOS
Blc. Chong Guu Chaffinch 'Ta-Hsin' AM/AOS

And a cute little Tolumnia- (I think) -That I didn't order, but I think he must have substituted it for the other Cathy Beck.

Also some new worm tea! Yay!
I can't wait to re-pot- I took pictures, but I'm still not quite sure where to post.- My son will be over early next week to help me and hopefully by then I can figure this out!
I didn't see worm castings, but he must have run out of that too!

Jerry, any word on the post-storm damage? I'm so sorry to hear that you're having to deal with that!

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't see this post sooner... with those prices and the flat rate shipping, it would be really hard to say "no" to buying more plants!

Now for the first project of the project! I have taken a coconut and split it in half, but leaving 1 side attached. I took the 2 phals and placed 1 in each side and attached them inside of the coconut. Then pack with the orchid moss which had been sitting in water mixed with worm tea. Here are the pics.

Cool.

I've always wanted to plant some orchids in coconut husks. Next time I visit Hawaii, I plan on collecting a few from the road.

Thats cool. I cant get coconuts still in the husk like you have around here. Its handy that way because if you ever need room you can attach an eye hook to it and hang it up to make more room for more orchids.
