Spikes on Vanda.

In march this year I did buy this Vanda in bloom. Now a few months later it is already having new spikes. These are my first own spikes.
I really like it.

This is a photo from when I bought it. It was almost finished flowering, so I did get it very cheap.

Anky the sanderiana is a species so no caps but it is now a Euanthe sanderiana. If well grown it should produce more than one spike per season. Maybe when yours grows up it will give you more.

Congrats on the rebloom Vandagirl - good growing!

Willeke,
Are you growing it in a glass vase? Please say yes! I wonder if that's what I need to keep a vanda happy?? Outside on my windy balcony, they just seem to dry up faster than I can water them.

I can make you happy with that. I grow all my Vanda's, Asco's and Vasco's in Vases.
It's really working well for me. So I hope it will work for you as well.

Tokyo Blue Vanda

I started my greenhouse & bought my first Tokyo Blue vanda in Feb. It bloomed for the first time about 2 weeks ago and I was just so amazed with its 11 large (5-6 in) dark purple blooms, being a newbie. I had to share the pix (my avatar) to others.

My Robert's delight vanda has a small spike too. I'll share that in a few weeks too.

However, no success in blooming even 1 from the 50 type of catts I now have, I mean completely blooming on my own. But I have a few with sheets now, just have to wait a few more months.

Congratulations, Willeke!

I have not yet tried your "under glass" method with vandas. I decided to wait until after everyone comes back indoors to see what kind of room under the lights I have to experiment. I have not forgotten about it! I'd love to grow vandas.

That's a gorgeous bloom. Can't wait to see what it looks like for you!

So, do you keep a little bit of water in the vase, or do you water it in a sink then place it back in the vase?

I need to check out Vanda culture to see if they will grow here...

I don't keep a little water in the vase. I mist them daily. Depending on the weather how often I mist them. Once a week I soak them with fertilizer. It's working well.

I was going to ask the same question as BGGraham, so is that just algea in the bottom 1/3 of the vase ?? I thought it looked like water also at first.
Thanks. ! Good growing !!
