Prosthechea cochleata scent

I've heard yea and nay, when it comes to bloom fragrance from the cockleshell orchid. I hear it has a fragrance like citrus/lemon, but several souces online state the blooms have no scent. Can anyone who's bloomed it set me straight?
Thanks,
Tony

I don't recall a noticable scent on mine but will check it again tomorrow. It has been blooming since July! I have about one bloom left per spike and then it will be done until next year.

I have found that the KEW database has reliable info and on a species information webpage they do not mention fragrance or scent at all. The Prosthechea fragrans is fragrant though...maybe that could account for some confusion.

i think i may remember a very very faint scent, but then again that may have been very largely due to wishful thinking

I didn't notice a scent on mine, either. And it was labeled 'fragrant' when I bought it.

Mine had a nice scent, was sweet and strong enough to notice it but not overpowering. It was blooming when I bought it in Feb. '10' and bloomed again in Nov.'10' so I don't know if temperature plays a factor.

I had one years ago, and I seem to remember it had a very nice fragrance to it.

But, as I get older, my memory is not as reliable as it used to be lol.

I have one in bloom right now but my allergies are so bad right now, I can't smell anything.

Maybe my blooms are old but I haven't detected a fragrance yet. If at any time I do detect something I will report back here.

OK, so far we have a vote of SCENT - 3; No SCENT - 2; Undecided - 1
No one ever promised me that orchid geeks was going to solve all my 'problems'
Mine has 2 sheaths, so if it decides to spike and bloom, I'll cast my vote too. Thanks everyone. Shann, appreciated the reminder about the Kew database. I always like that.
Cheers,
Tony
