Orchid website/blog?

Hi,
I am new around here and I don't use forums much. But now I can see the benefit of it and I know it's a great feeling to share the things we love. So recently I have started taking photos of my orchids and the others maybe with some articles-stories and want to have a website to display them and finally share with the rest of the world. Now I need your suggestion; Do any of you have a website or blog for the same reason? Which would you suggest? I've been looking around at this kind of thing Make your own website with 1&1 and it looks pretty easy. But still I cannot decide if I should have a blog or proper website. What do you do for your photos?

If you're planning on getting in the business of selling orchids or orchid materials (or anything, for that matter) then a website would be beneficial however, if you're just wanting to "blog" about it...the blog would likely be better. Websites can start to get quite pricey to maintain...even the DIY types come w/a monthly price tag. Not to mention the annual fee on the domain/url.

If you're looking to make money by partnering w/other sites...this can be done w/a blog minus the fees of a website.

So...I guess it all depends on what exactly you want to do w/your "site".

We have a number of members who blog and have their own blogs...hopefully one of them will see this soon and chime in on their experiences.

Hey Joss,
I've had a blog for a little while now (though acitivity on it's decreased a lot this year because I'm in my final year of highschool and haven't had the time), and I use Blogger and I've loved it. It's easy to create your blog, make posts for it, and especially to follow other blogs too

I've loved having the blog and I normally upload a heap of photos and yack on about them, and gardening and orchids and all that kind of thing and I think it's good fun. I'm following a couple of other "geek" blogs as well and it's been great watching their blogs too.

My blog is My Patch of Heaven if you want to have a look around,

and then this is Melody's blog

Hooray! Plants!

... I know there are some other geeks with blogs but I can't remember them off the top of my head, so hopefully they'll be able to give some tips and add their too

I am not a blogger but have a Website made on the old Mac program iWeb which for a reason only known to Apple, they decided not to keep supporting it.

Personally I don't have time to blog, and being a procrastinator I find he Web site suits my needs to update as I think fit, whereas with blogs, i get the feeling that you are EXPECTED to contribute regularly.

Anyway, my Web site is Welcome and has a lot of different stuff on it.
See if it is the type of thing you want to create.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your suggestions. I do definitely not aim to sell anything through the website-at least at the moment. A blog sounds much practical but I don't think I would keep it updated very often - that's a good tip Anton thanks. But of course I will still feed the site with some new photos. Anyway, I think the result will be a website then. I will let you know how it goes....

Thanks for the mention Michael!

Most of us don't update more than weekly tops, everybody gets busy and has a life. I'd be glad to follow another interesting orchid related blog if you start one. Let us know, There's lots of orchid blogs out there, both Michael and I have some links to other good ones on our pages, but for the lazy:

Probably the most popular orchid related blog: Developing an Orchid Collection with Backbulbs

This one's in Portuguese, but gorgeous pics, and Google translate is your friend: Blog da Bete Orquideas

Here's Ian's blog, another forum member here: http://catasetum-ian.blogspot.com/

And another of the many good one's: http://ricardogupi.blogspot.com/
