My Cathy Beck 9/19/08

Here's my Cathy Beck. The blooms are from the new growth from this year. No spikes from the old growth.

Patticake, how great!!! Mine are getting so close to opening up. When I come home in the evening, I check Cathy before giving my husband a kiss. Any minute now. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The spike on my old growth is growing very fast. If I'm lucky I will have the first spike, from my new growth, in full bloom when the bloom from the old spike opens up. How cool it would be to have flowers for months and months. (fingers crossed)

Yay! I'm so glad your finally bloomed! Jenny I hope yours takes the example and gets down to business! Patti yours has six blooms! Mine only had four, sounds like more blooms if it blooms later in the year. My my new growth will bloom this year I have a new baby growth coming too!

That would be very cool, Ellen! I only have the spike coming from the new growth on Cathy. I know what you mean about checking it. I would go to it first thing in the morning, and first thing when I got home from work. I was so happy when it finally popped! Let us know when yours opens!

Kortney, That's great that you have new growth, too! I remember when yours bloomed. Next year should be a good show!

Awww, look how cute it is!!! Way to grow it Pattie. Mine, well it grew a root-1 root. My kids promptly depotted it playing catch, and knocked it out of it's pot. New root nada. Now it's lost the only leaf it had left. I think it's a goner. I may as well just order another, and start over. They are debils I tell you.

Same as the rest of my Dends. Lotsa light, water when needed, yada yada. I have 6 Dends besides this one of varying species/types, and one is an antelope type, all happy, all growing like weeds. I've got one in spike already, and one that looks like it has the start of spikes. Argh! This one is a debil I tell you!

I thought of that, and brought it in, and that is when it tossed the last leaf. I have no idea what to do with it.

What about watering? I don't let mine completely dry out. The medium is damp and I spray every day or every other day depending on how dry it is.

I've got it in s/h. I put another Dend. from bark to s/h that didn't grow at all in a year, and a month later it had a new growth.

I'm wondering if it's still adapting. Mine took along time to acclimate. It's just now putting out a new growth. How long of a period of higher light levels to the reduced light levels was it in? I'm thinking if it was in the higher light this whole time and you haven't seen anything, then keep it in the reduce levels. Despite the leaf drop. That could be just the older leaf.

Well, it grew the root in the higher light levels, and seemed to be stabilizing, until the depot. Thing is they didn't tell me, and it laid outside in the heat for about 4 hours with the root drying out. I found it when I got home from work. Potted it back up, and brought it in. I am throwing it back out tomorrow with the rest, sink or swim lol.

brookn- does debils...Give it a chance in the s/h- I know that I read that they don't like to "wiggle" at all. Yours sounds like it did a little more than that! The s/h might promote new roots!
FlaCo- I hope mine doesn't meet a similar fate! (If it does, we know where to buy more, don't we?!)

My Cathy Beck looks just like yours. I'll get a picture up when I get a chance. Have to go out of town on family emergency.

I posted an update last month where 35 of the 40 I have left flowered over the last two months.

Well the flowers are dying on the oldest ones (60 day half life) and 8 of them have started new spikes for a second round of flowers. Flowering season for them is October to February so I am hoping for a third set of blooms later for some of the plants.
