Cathy Beck is coming along nicely!

After a long winter during which I had lost my Dend. Cathy Beck, I am thrilled to show her off today. I have kept her outside the whole time and she has thanked me. I can't wait to see the buds open!

Me, too, Jay! I think it will be so much fun to see all the blooms in pictures online. Since I keep mine outside all the time, I would love to see some that are kept inside. I wonder if there will be a difference?

You must be so proud. I just have an Oncidium that has never bloomed before in Spike.
Like you I feel as if I'm expecting again. LOL

To keep you all up on the control plants I have 20 in spike now (of 50) and peak spiking is in October-February. It seems we are all getting earlier flowering than the University of Hawaii did. Maybe we will see additional spikes later. Additional spiking is common on Canaculatum type Dendrobium, which are in the parentage of Cathy Beck.

I am pleased how well they came out in baskets. I potted several that way that are in bloom now.

Congratulations on your flowers.

Your's looks very nice too! I like how it is so tall. Can't wait till mine gets a little bigger
I'm glad to see that these are, for the most part, vigorous and healthy growers. I don't have many miniature or compact orchids, but these have impressed me so far with the fact that they spike when they are still yet so small.

I was surprised at it's height, snowball. At first I thought I might have gotten a throw back to one of the parents. (Don't know if that can happen, but, I thought it anyway.) I wonder if each new one will be taller. I truly expected only two leaves.

Oh, I didn't even notice how many leaves it had on the one PB before you said anything. Looks nice though, kind of makes the whole plant more substantial.

Mine's not spiking....yet. But lots and lots of roots. I'm thinking mine will spike on the typical schedule.

Hoping maybe a little earlier though....

Mine was teeny tiny to begin with, faded fast and lost all its leaves, now it's thrown a keiki. I'm going to take it off tomorrow and put it on a teeny tiny mount.

Nice! Mine looks just like that right now. It got the new growth that got a lot bigger than the old growth, and now it's in spike! I'll post mine as soon as it blooms- I can't wait to see yours also. Since they're from seed, there could be differences. I'm excited!

Does anyone else have the purple stripes on the spike? I was wondering if that is because I have had it in ample sun or if it is just different from others. I seem remember others being all green.

I've had mine in good sun, but I just went and checked- I don't see any purple striping. Do you mean on the buds, or the "stem" itself ?

ooooh, lucky you and great growing Ellen! Mine has gotten huge and keeps putting out more bulbs but I'd rather see a spike. I EXPECT a spike this growing season (I hope, I hope, I hope).
