Cathy question

Ok, well my Cathy Beck has started growing. It has two small new growths, but not too many roots. Every time I touch the pot the poor little plant falls over cause there aren't enough roots to keep it in the bark mix.

I would like to know if I should or could put it on a mount? I have some small pieces of wood I could attach it too.

What do you think? I don't want it hurt it, but now that it has growth starting would it be a good time to do the mount?

Thanks!

I haven't tried mounting any orchids; however, I tied a piece of elastic gift cord over the pbulbs and the pot on my Den Cathy to keep it in the pot. It works to keep her stabilized and the roots are doing fine now. Had the same problem with it falling over and out of the bark.

I'd just stake it and tie it down with twist ties or whatever you can find. I've had that situation with nobiles and after a few weeks under lights, they start growing roots to no end. Hopefully that's all it takes.

That has happen to me...with the Cathy. I used a pot clip which I placed in between the bulbs to hold the plant down until roots begin to grow.

Now that there's new growth, this is the time to mount! I had planned on mounting my Cathy Beck, but she is putting out all sorts of roots in her clay pot. She only has one four-inch new growth, but there must be six leaves on that and it is getting FAT.She's a beautiful green color and I just hesitate to mess with success... Let me know how yours does because I will still probably mount her when I bring her back inside in the Fall I've seen others with mounted C.B.s that are doing great

I had mine in Spag...and it didn't do well. After a month or two in spag it held up and I decided to switch it to smaller and a more airy mix. I went crazy and mix alifor/bark/coal/perlite (lol). It received the change it very well but it was loose...that is when I used the clip.

You can also grab some wire and wrap it from the top of the pot (where the plant is ) to the bottom.

April

I had answered your private message.

Dens do OK on mounts but want a lot of water to establish. Once established they do fine.

I have started putting mine in 4 inch baskets, which they fill. All my 60 plants left are pot bound.

I need to get some new pictures to post as an update. Even the worst plants I had ( 1/2 bulb and no leaves) is over 3 inches with several leaves. I never lost a single plant and some looked too dead to pot and they also lived.
