Den. Cathy Beck Week 2

Den Cathy Beck hasn't done anything yet. It seems like it's still wondering around not knowing what to do. Cute little booger. Still don't know what I'm going to do with this one except to keep it in the pot that it's already in. I added some of the worm castings to the top of the medium and I mist with worm tea every other day.

Jenny my entire plant is smaller than your smallest pseudobulb with the two leaves. It is swallowed in it's tiny pot. It's going to be a few years before I can compare to any of the others.

If positive thoughts (and a little worm tea) count for anything, mine will take off soon. I plan on putting it in a vanda basket when it gets a little bigger and then it can spend the summer outside. It should have at least three other Tolumnias for playmates--not to mention a whole gang of phal pals

Here are a few arrival shots of my Dend Cathy Beck. For size comparison it is in a 1 1/4 " pot. Please don't think I am complaining here! I am thrilled to have her just as is and more than appreciative of what Jerry has done for all of us. It will be good for the project to see just how fast a Dend of this size will grow and catch up with the others. It does have an old spike between it's two little leaves so it certainly is mature, just small. I'm thinking of putting her in S/H in the interest of true orchid science.

Connie: Mine was also quite small like yours, probably the same size. It had a tiny little dried up spike too. Of course, you know mine didn't hold up well in the frisbee fiasco. At least yours looks healthy. Dens grow pretty fast, but it takes a great deal of my patience to start with something so small. Hope you have good luck with yours.

Jenny: Your plant looks great.

Thumbs up Sunday April 20, 2008 Week Three

I should have gave a better title to this thread. Oh well. Last night I repotted my Den. I had to cause after the hair toss, it lost a wee bit of medium and just wasn't stable in the pot. Also I noticed it had little white flies buzzing around it like vultures.......

So.....with Brookn's Recipe, I gave it a good,,,,,sudzy,,,,,cinnamony bath Now it's in a 2 1/2" clay home.

No new psbulbs to speak of, but a lot of new roots growing.

Medium is the same as it came, except I added more and a little bit more perlite. I also added some worm castings that Jerry gave me.

It looks good, Jenny! I think it'll be just fine after it's little hair toss!

I moved my Cathy Beck to S/H yesterday. We'll see how it goes. I assume this is a warm growing dendrobium that needs no rest period, so in theory it should adapt to it quickly... I hope ...

It looks really good and got a little bigger. I placed it closer to the windowsill and she basks in the sun. I think she likes it. Been there for over a week now. I worm tea mist every other day.

The one month update. I think I'm going to start yelling at it to grow.
