Den Cath Beck

Finally Open! Second Bloom. There was another spike but it didn't make it. One flower blasted. There are two spikes with two flowers each. Ok now I swear I will repot her when she finished blooming because she is still in a 2 inch square pot haha. Also I did take a pic of the whole plant but must have deleted it.

FYI I bought a Den Cathy Beck shortly after you all bought it for the growing project and I put it into S/H and it is doing beautifully. It seems to need a generous amount of water and the S/H was the only way I could supply it. I posted pics in a thread last month of its blooms. It six opened at one time. Try S/H, you'll be pleased.

I have tried s/h several times with not very good results haha. I still have some hydroton left. I seem to be able to keep grandma penguin's alive though lol! I dunno if thats cuz she had them in leca for a bit before I started babysitting them for her. I have had them since I want to say November but haven't really seen any growth on them yet. But they are alve and well lol. I might try it again sometime soon as I am thinking s/h being dirtless and all might be easier for me.

For those that were not familiar with the growing project and this plant. It is a miniature and Kortney's plant is probably about 4-5 inches high.

I do find the buds are the favorite type of food for thrips. It can look like bud blast. I have to treat for thrips constantly (then I do that for all my plants) or I lose the buds. Fortunately these can bloom about three times a season. I have a few blooming for the sixth time in two years.

It is a really nice University of Hawaii miniature. I am a little disappointed that they do not have them scheduled for production again anytime soon.

They are great little plants. I like it becasue it is so small and not monstrous lol. I think I would have had a better yeild of flowers had I not forgotten to water it for 3 weeks while the buds were forming, that how I lost the one spike I am sure of it. So lesson learned for next time. The first blooming it had one spike with 4 or 5 flowers on it. So next year's goal is to water it while the buds are developing haha

I am kinda disappointed to learn that too Jerry. i think this would be a very in demand plant. If I found one for sale I would probably buy another one lol.
