| Update From the Secret Judge's Quality of Competition Photographs Hi Members Recently people have been entering images for the photo comp at a level higher than they should and as a result aren't up the required standard. As we have a lot of new members, it seems timely to reiterate what is expected for each Section in the Photo Comp. OPEN: People who enter this level should be competent photographers with several years experience using high end camera equipment, members of camera clubs with several years experience or professional photographers. These photographers routinely produce images of a very high quality. Images in this section are expected to be of an exceptionally high standard and will be judged as such because the entrants are expected to have a comprehensive knowledge of photography. Intermediate: Better than beginner, have an understanding of composition, lighting and exposure. Generally the members entering this section are keen photographers producing good quality photographs, occasionally fluking that ONE good shot, but not routinely. Members who have been entering the photo comp since it's inception and have won awards at Beginner level generally progress onto Intermediate Level. Recently members have been entering images into the OPEN section which just are not up to OPEN standard. The points being judged are: Composition Lighting Exposure Quality of the flower Most importantly - background Depending on your level of expertise, depends on how these points are judged, the more experienced the Section, the harder the marking. The Secret Judges each month are experienced photographers generally chosen out of OPEN Section, and have a good idea of the standards expected for each section. SUGGESTION: Look at previous competition winning images in the OPEN section and see what quality is expected, and aspire to it. Winners EARN their AWARDS. Be honest with your self, don't enter at a level higher that you are capable of producing because you will not have your images judged. I would also like to thank the Secret Judges and the Members ![]() |
