| Chitchat for the October photo comp Hi members one of the photography judges has made this suggestion that, although you may have won your section once doesn't mean you have the skills to advance to the next level, and that you have to win it 3 times so if you enter as a novice you have to win an Award 3 times before you have to move up to Intermediate. I think that might be fair to all who enter please feel free to have your say ![]() |

| That sounds like a good idea to me. There have been some people who have entered the Open section at various times when they really don't have the skills to be competing with the experienced photographers in that class. All of the photographers in this class are either professionals of been involved in photography for many years developing experience and skills to routinely produce images of an exceptionally high standard. I think that by the time someone has won their Class 3 times, they have earned the right to go up a level. Sometimes you can fluke ONE good shot and have trouble repeating it. By having to repeat that effort 3 times you develop a consistency of experience and skill at that level that earns you the right to progress. This all works towards our Forum having the best orchid photographs on the Net. Also it makes our photography competition something worth competing for. Just my 2 petals worth.

| LOL - funny Anton. I could try that... it might even help... but I'll be really restricted after the surgery so will have plenty of time on my hands. Just won't be able to get at my computer to see how I do. |

| lol Vivienne you need a laptop, wireless broadband lol works wonders for me |

| Fred & Anton: I agree with your decision. I get a successful pic once in awhile after many many attempts but it's not usually the "norm." It's a fair decision and will help all of us to concentrate and keep practicing on the basics of a good photo. Viv: Good luck on you knee surgery! |

| Tom and Vivienne, I have to hang my head and confess that I took the pic about 18 months gone and I was probably one over the eight when it was uploaded. I found it while seaching the disc and thought it might do for the comp, but did not recognise it. Mike spotted it right away... |

| ERRRR - I took the pic of my latest entry, my Bl. Yellow Bird, and didn't put the plant back where it goes. STUPID!! One of my cats ate it. @#(4*@^%&@($ Now to figure out which of my little fur balls did it. |

| Birdsong you can't enter the one plant into 2 categories. It is either in Intermediate, OR Open. The photography is what is being judged, more so than the flower. The Species and Floral Displays are the 2 where the plants are judged first and the photography second.
