| I'm a FIAP member (The International Federation of Photographic Art) but lately I've been taking pictures only for my own joy and for my web site. My equipment is only Cyber-shot digital camera, nothing fancy. http://www.sobradesign.com/~anikon

Got a Mamiya RB 67 and a 35mil Pentax LX with a host of lenses sitting quietly in bags full of light meters,flash guns and all the other stuff I once carried about. I took the pentax into a Hong Kong camera dealer to ask about some little thing and he said " Ah so, antique! " So now I only play with a Nikon digi. Bill

Oh memories, I used to have a Mamiya 645 outfit myself, I really miss it, but NOT the cost of film and processing col neg. Also had a 4X5 monorail as well used to process the sheet film my self, B&W AND trannies, but film costs, again became prohibitave, that is, if you could find sheet film these days.

Yes you do Sandra. So does EVERYONE ELSE ! Fred has opened it to ALL members, there's an "Award" for Best Beginner (which you come under), Best Experienced Photographer (a few people qualify here), Best Floral Display, and a best representation of a species. This final one, Fred told me that the "Secret Judge" told him they will pick a photo out of all the contestants, that best shows a species, not necessarily a techically good photo of it, just that the plant itself is a good specimen, and the photo depicts this, if that makes sense ? Is that right Fred? I think I got it right, if not, then maybe the "Secret Judge" can let you know if I am wrong. I suppose if we are lucky we might be able to win 2 categories, best photo AND best depiction of a species. A thought for everyone, what's the concensus about a "Member's Choice Award" for best photo next month ?

Hi anton I just confered with the Secret Judge regarding Quote/Anton] This final one, Fred told me that the "Secret Judge" told him they will pick a photo out of all the contestants, that best shows a species, not necessarily a techically good photo of it, just that the plant itself is a good specimen, and the photo depicts this, if that makes sense ? Is that right Fred? I think I got it right, if not, then maybe the "Secret Judge" can let you know if I am wrong. and yes you are right. It was hard to reach the secret judge as I dont know how to get intouch. I had to wait untill I was contacted. I wish I knew how the secret judge was. |

About 35 years ago I was a 35mm wannabe - amateur - did various photography projects for my work environment and had a amateur darkroom with all the stinky chemicals. Did a few weddings for friends and relatives with 35mm equipment - the whole process from taking pics to developing negatives to printing in the darkroom. Too many other things to do and the photography hobby was also expensive. Didn't really develop it much after a few years of fooling around. Purchased an inexpensive point and shoot digital a few years ago - pics are really just snapshots - not what I would consider "art". I do enjoy the hobby still and maybe when I retire I will get a good SLR and try to get more serious? mike

When I saw the photo comp, I took a camera, I took an orchid, I put it somewhere, and in 5 min I have made 3 photos, I put the orchid back, I connected the camera to my pc, I uploaded the photos and uploaded them in the forum.

I must admit I'm a little puzzled by this thread. It is titled "Drop Your Photo Here" yet it is the place we're supposed ot put our photographic experience while a different thread is the one to put your pic in? Why not put both entry (pic) and a brief bit on your experience in one post in one place?
|
| ||||
|
I am trying to keep the Photo Comp section for just for comprtition pics. That was explaned but time after time there were posts without pics for the comp. It was suggested to me by the Secret Judge to start this thread for the photographic experience of the entrants. --------------------------------------- |

Ok so maybe then this thread should not be titled "Drop Photo Here" if we are not supposed to drop our photos here. That's the confusing thing.

Kevin take a look at the thread title. Has that taken away the confusion |

My photographing experience is virtually nil. A few months ago I had bought a nice digital and was beginning to learn but then it was stolen. Before that I used only disposable cameras So I guess that puts me in the "recently bought a camera and am learning" category unless you count the disposable camera era in which case I'm probably in the "been taking pictures for a while, but just family snaps" category.
