congrats to all the winners!! there were some really beatiful photos this month I'm quite happy that my shiny Phal pic won- considering it was one of the very last pictures from my dead old camera.........of course my new (early xmas present) camera is poised and ready to go.......that is if i can learn how to work with it and get some more flowers to shoot- my other two entries were shot with my new camera-and the full size image is like 3600x2700 ish pixels....so should anyone want a larger image i am happy to share |
| ||||
| Turns out you both know someone with a large-format professional printer. If you two want to, Jenny can email me her photo in high resolution (720 pixels per inch or higher) at 8x10 in .jpg format and Patticake can PM me her address, and I can print it out and mail it.

Glad I didn't judge in January. First chance I have had to enter in months, seems at the moment I am lucky to have just one flower a month. Now I have to see what the ramifications long term are from the extreme heat we had. Congrats to the other winners, cos winners are grinners.

For those what are relatively new to Geeks, He has become somewhat of a cult hero amongst the "oldies" of the forum. If he takes a vacation, I get a lot of PMs asking if he is OK and when he'll return. With this one, it is that I just want to grab everything I can hold, and get off of this mixed up crazy world. NO, I don't have monkeys, but my dad did in the 2nd World War when he was in Borneo. He found a dead monkey on the side of the road and it had a baby clinging to it, so he rescued it and had it as a pet throughout the war. When they were picked up after the war, 6 months after the war had finished, ( the Aust, military forgot about dad's battalion and had to make a special effort to get them off the island where they were stationed, they were STILL fighting the Japanese) dad released it into a colony of other monkeys. So, guess it must be in the blood.

I just took another wander through the Hall of Fame today and it occurred to me, if we do another calendar for 2010, we're going to have a fantastic set of pics to choose from (again)!!! I'm really enjoying my 2009 orchidgeeks calendar - many thanks for sending me one Jenny!

I just have to say that the photo competitions are one of my favorite parts of the forum. I love seeing what people are growing. I love seeing how people photograph their orchids. I love seeing how people have improved in both their growing and their photography. I love how many entries we get. I love the great attitude/spirit of enjoyment that everyone involved has. I love the fact that brand new members and those new to photographing their hobby win just like seasoned members. The photo competition has become like extra thick icing on my favorite cake. And I want to give a personal thank you to everyone who has entered. Without you there would be no competition, just an empty thread. Every person who enters, regardless of whether they win or not, helps to make the monthly photo competition fun, spectacular to look at, and a BIG success!

Fred, I'd like to say to those who did not win, please don't be discouraged and please consider entering again. This month was probably the most competitive I've seen since the competition started. There are easily 10 other photos that looked like they could be from any top-quality orchid book or calendar. A long time ago when I first joined the AOS judging program we had to explain why we wanted to be an orchid judge. One of my reasons was because I saw it as an opportunity to share and recognize/acknowledge beauty. I think the photo comp does that too. I'm glad Fred saves the threads from all the photo comps. There like mini galleries. I'm very proud that so many members participate and that they offer up such a great variety of photos, interesting and beautiful.
