I think all the winners should feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Not only for the picture but for getting the plant to co-operate!

The photos are great. The Zygopetalum is exquisite. Phalpal, for someone with their own thread about your photo traumas, I think you have reached your goal, that is a wonderful photo. Bulbophyllums, now I want one of those-eek.

I notice this month that 3 of the 5 winners are species. It's nice to see folks growing the species. In my humble opinion many species have shapes, colours, markings and other features that are really difficult to top with hybridizing. I mean take for example the Cym. aloifolium: just look at the great colour and markings, clean, sharp, great shaped flower, what could you do to it to improve upon it, except perhaps have more of it? I love hybrids but there are some species that are just hard to beat. I'm always happy to see folks growing species.

You know, I have often wondered how that plant would stack up to the awarded clones... I need to get myself OrchidWiz and AQPlus, so I can at least run flower dimension comparasins. That plant is actually a very nice thing, as you mentioned, for colour and conformation.... It's just finally starting to look healthy again from four or so years of neglect. If it stacks up to the awards, I'd love to exhibit it. Certainly better than some of the aloifoliums I have seen. But then, I haven't seen many.
