UK Paphs & Phrags

Starting to get jealous of people overseas with beautiful Paph and Phrags

I have had trouble finding them here in the UK, Ratcliffe do sell nice ones, but I cant afford to buy prize winners yet

Anyone know of a good place to buy Paphs/phrags in the UK, in between the margins of Noids and prize winners?

Thanks,

Tom499

Hi Tom, there is a vendor in netherlands called Botorch Botanicals that sell species orchids, their prices are reasonable and shipping isnt to bad you might check out their website.

Thanks for the info , I find there are a few sellers that dont appear in search engine finds. Googling Botorch Botanicals lead me to a page where an address was, but no direct link from the search engine.

Word of mouth still seems to be the best way

I have been collecting Paph. species for some years, can I suggest you attend some of the Orchid Societies annual shows, mostly in the spring time. There are always orchid nurseries present and you should be able to pick up a good selection of both species and hybrids at these events. If you really want a treat go along to the Orchid Society of Great Britain's spring show at the RHS in Westminster, London on the Saturday and Sunday the 15th.and16th. March. There will be plenty of orchid nurseries present both from Europe and other parts of the world and you should have no problem finding some nice plants. Apart from that, the displays are just beautiful. There is a local Orchid Society close to you the Solihull and District, contact them and find out when their show is due to be held but there are also other societies close to Birmingham. Good luck Peter T.

Hi Tom I'm almost sure there's a specialist paph nursery somewhere near guilford. One of the YK girls on here ( or maybe a rival sorry) buys there, let me see if I can find her name, Judi

Sorry Tom , brain raddled! It was another forum, she lives in winchester and gets hers from Radcliffes, but I'm sure there's a local nursery she buys from, I'll PM her.

Thanks for the info guys, There is a society near me that holds shows twice a year, but thats not enough hehe and its not a big show.

Ideally there will be somewhere near Birmingham, as so far most of my searches lead me to the South for shows and nurseries.

I'm sure something will appear though.

Tom - does this mean your parents have lessened their threats on you taking over the house with orchids?? Or are you now at University?? I haven't chatted with you in a long while!

I'm going under cover Vivienne

They can catch me out with the postman, but a small deviation on the way home from a hockey match.... I think I'm on to a cunning plan!

"Well I've found Paphs and Phrags very easy growers in my conditions, so when I go away you will have an easy time looking after them"

They're only white lies hehe and the first bit is true
