| Merry Christmas... Free Orchid I recently purchased an outdoors, overgrown, unknown, epiphytic specimen orchid and plan on dividing it. Unidentified orchids are just like presents that unwrap themselves when they bloom. Personally though, I prefer seeing the roots clinging to branches and would be happy even if the orchid didn't bloom... when they do have nice blooms its an added bonus. So if you would like a free orchid PM me to reserve one.* *Pick up only, while supplies last, offer expires on New Years day. |

| Just got back from a road-trip up north. Took my girlfriend to see the Snoopy Museum up in Santa Rosa and on the way down we visited a few orchid nurseries. If you're going to be near the Pacifica area and are interested in species orchids I highly recommend visiting hanging gardens. Good selection of some neat orchids for very reasonable prices. Dan is a really helpful, patient and personable guy. If you have time left over then you should check out White Oak Orchids which is just down the street. Very large selection of species orchids at regular prices. Both are by appointment only so call ahead before visiting. I attached a picture of the orchid. My guess is that it's some kind of Brassavola hybrid... but I could be wrong. The leaves are around 6 inches long and the pseudobulbs are around 3 inches long. It hasn't bloomed yet, I only just purchased it a week or so ago. I have no orchid shipping experience but perhaps if I can find somebody (perhaps phalpal?) to give me a hand I'll see about the possibility of shipping divisions to those who have already expressed interest. |

| epiphyte, I was in Santa Rosa last week and took my 5-yr old to the Charles M. Schulz (Snoopy) Museum! Isn't it a great museum? We loved watching the Charlie Brown movies in the theater. At any rate, that's a healthy plant! I definitely would like a piece of it. You can ship a small box of a division for about $4-8, if you have boxes in your inventory at home. If not, then you'll need to buy boxes for shipping each div. Check out a UPS store (UPS Global Home) or USPS (USPS - The United States Postal Service (U.S. Postal Service)). Each website should have the info on prices, or links to a UPS/USPS nearby. In regard to packing an orchid, just do what orchid nurseries do when they ship out to you -- cover potting medium with plastic or damp newspaper and tape it down...securely wrap plant with newspaper (butcher paper works, too) and tape it down. Make sure orchid doesn't move around the box too much. Oh, if you plan on shipping bareroot, make sure you wrap the roots with damp moss or paper and place in a plastic, but don't tightly close it. I hope I typed it clearly, as I'm in somewhat of hurry.

| to save on the costs of postage one would be alot better off shipping barerooted also it would also pay to look up your local shipping laws as well as it may be illegal so also send potting medium ( that would come under Quarantine Laws ) I would recommend finding them out before hand |

| Epi your orchid looks exactly like my recent purchase from SBOE. It has a vague tag that reads: ONCIDIUM BARBATUM ALLIANCE. It had tons of little yellow/brown flowers that smelled wonderful. Plants the size of yours were easily selling for $400 plus, at least of the few I saw of that size. I paid $75 for a little guy in a four inch vanda basket. I would have had a very difficult time dividing such a beauty! I don't have experience shipping out orchids, but I have ordered a lot on line and would be pretty confident in packing and shipping some out for you. The trick is to get them to their destination fast, no longer then two days. With the weather in the midwest and east right now I would be reluctant to send there.

| USPS Shipping Boxes are free. All you have to do is either go online and request them or go to the post office and get them if available. There are several kinds. You can get Priority or Flat Rate. Priority is cheaper unless the weight hits around 7-8 pounds. Then the best bet is to go Flat Rate. No matter how much the box weighs the price is $8.95. (Major eBayer here.) Hope this helps

| Like Phalpal, I'm thinking it's of the Oncidium type. Also, I agree with not shipping to the midwest and east coast due to the weather. However, California... I agree with articuno75 about the shipping cost. Knowing that one orchid, especially of small to medium size, doesn't weight 7 lbs., I would ship Priority.
