Any Australian Sellers? Hi, all. I'm really interested in growing my collection of orchids. I doubt very much that the Australian government would let me receive any sort of plant material from overseas, so I'm "stuck" looking within Australia. Is anyone on here from Australia currently selling orchids? If not, do you guys know of a good source here in Oz (preferably in Melbourne)? Thanks!

Dear RantingDev, I see you're in Melbourne. I live in Melbourne too. Even here I have to do most of my buying online or through the mail. Go to the Australian Orchid Council website and go to the vendor/nusery section. I've bought from Easy Orchids, Orchids on Newbold, Atlantis Orchids, Garden World, Mt. Beenka Orchids, Nicky's Slippers, Fern Acres, Australian Orchids, and a few others. I sell Paphs too if that's what you're into. What kind of orchids are you interested in? -Kevin

Hi Anton, Believe it or not; Adelaide Orchids have moved to Bali. Valley orchids is just about 100% cymbidium seedlings and clones but I think they would do mail order cyms and I think are open for business to the public by appointment and on Saturdays from about Mother's Day until about October. They do have a good range of standard, miniature and intermediate cymbidiums Kevin Western

| Adelaide Orchids moved to Bali about 12 months ago Kevin, as I tried to contact them about getting some cyms. Evidently they weren't impressed with the volumes they were selling here in Adelaide and wanted to go "Global". I have most of the cym colours I want, but would like to try crossing my 'Dolly' and 'Ruby Eyes' with one of yours so that I can at least have one of my own "creations". I am half way through converting a small aviary into a GH (see the posting Building an Orchid House) and then I'll get some Paphs from Kevin March, some Phals and some other small varieties which I will research once it's done. Genny is really getting into her native miniatures, and concocted a potting mix over the weekend from data off the Web. I will be picking up the Dockrilla from my brother tonight too, so looking forward to remounting it and giving it some TLC.

Hi Kevin, For Phrags contact Doug Matters in Noosaville Queensland. Phone 07 5449 0459. Your flask of Den tetragonum has been replated. They are quite advanced already so should not take long to be ready for deflask. Perhaps 4-6 weeks. Regards, Kevin Western

This page lists a bunch of supliers some in australia: www.orchidmall.com I haven't tried any of them yet. Some companies will take care of permits for you at a cost if you want to buy from other countries. Plants in flasks might not need so much paper work as the flask should be sterile (read up on deflasking first).

If you're into cymbidiums-Valley Orchids are wonderful people to deal with.I just invested in quite a few from them. Some very unique ones, also. It cost me a pretty penny to get them to the U.S. But their prices are very reasonable,if you're in Australia.Happy Hunting! ![]()
