| Looking To Buy I honestly know nothing about orchids. My wife is addicted, and in a "previous" life had some of the rarest ones she could find anyway, and is an expert at orchid care. So, I'd like to surprise her with one that someone in the know would appreciate, instead of just ordering something because I think it looks nice. We're in Oregon, if that helps any. I'm just looking for something that is rare, beautiful, and someone that is used to finding rare orchids would still be surprised by. Hope that makes sense! Let me know if you need more info to help out! Oh, and cost is not particularly a factor. Last edited by Neo541; 10-25-2006 at 06:13 PM. Reason: Added info |

| If she maintains a list of her orchids in a computer file, maybe you can sneak a copy of it. Then take that with you to an orchid nursery, as per Mike's suggestion, and see if there is a plant that fits her typical on the list, but is one that isn't on the list, and maybe a very new hybrid, if that is her cup of tea, or a newly discovered species, if she is into that. | Her big thing is rare orchids...She typically likes smaller blooms I believe, hanging I think. Like I said, it's a different language to me, but she's kind of put it out of her system, even though she'd really like to start up again. So, no snooping that I can think of. She was mentioning something about desert orchids being very rare, if that helps. Also, i'm in Eugene. Thanks for your help so far! |

| I'd say you are in luck! There is a very good vendor right there in your city! (By the way I used to live there and loved it - GO DUCKS!) Briggs Hill Orchids, Inc. 27936 Briggs Hill Rd. Eugene, OR 97405 541-431-3886 They are open several days a week and I'm sure would love to help you out. mike |

| I'd start with Helene at Briggs Hill with your question. Of course someone on the forum might see this post and have a response eventually as well. I'm personally still working on figuring out how to grow the more common types myself. There are a number of online vendors that I have noted list various plants with the word "rare" in the descriptor. After talking with Briggs Hill post again if you are still looking and maybe someone can do some research for you. Good luck - mike |
