I'm starting to think (with more reading) that I was in too much of a hurry to repot and should have left the orchids in the original (smaller) pots?

FYI...The correct name for the Den is Den Cathy Beck. I believe you got that spelling from Jerry who mistyped when he sent out his email. Hopefully Jerry will see this and give some clarifacation in case the rest of us are wrong. I've repotted mine in S/H and it seems to be doing fine though I won't really know for a few more weeks.

It's D. Cathy Beck. Jerry has fumble fingers sometimes.

I have a serious problem with 'fumble fingers' It is Den Cathy Beck, no offense to Cathy who was part of the Univ of Hawaii team that developed the orchid.

I do not think you will have any problems with the re-potting.

The Bassovola was ready for 4 inches and will fill the pot in a year. Most plugs can go directly into 4 inches. It is the only time (going directly to 4 inches) where a large pot is not detrimental to an orchid. I used to pot all my plugs directly to 4 inches and only switched to conserve table space.

Thank you Jerry, I can see - when its said that way - the logic behind repoting at that size. To me it was instinctive but my instincts were formed around roses not orchids. Your fumble fingers have nothing on my brain. I'm always typing badly any more and can't even see it until a long time after I've saved the typing.
