Vanda Bangkok blue

This is my newest addition. I did win it on Ebay with an auction. I was the only one that did place a bid. So it was really cheep. It looks very nice. Although it may take a while before it blooms. We just wait and see. Is there any one who has an idea about the color this one may be. The photo that was placed with the auction was a light blue color. And I did also see a photo that was supposed to be a Bangkok blue, and that was more darker blue. So i'm curious what color it really is.

Ebay is so fun, isn't it? I have bought a few really cheap orchids as well, but you have to add in the shipping as part of what you paid and decide if it really was that cheap...

If it is a seedling cross then it can be any color its parents will give it. Since it is about 60% Vanda coerulea, 35% Vanda sanderiana and about 5% Vanda luzinoca , I think chances are very strong you will have blue flowers. The only awarded one had very dark purple flowers - Royal purple with midnight purple lip.

Oh, the name is Vanda Bangkok Blue - both capitalized - both part of the name.

It sure is fun Ebay. I think it has been cheep. I did pay 6.50 in euro for it. That's in American dollar about 9.00 dollar. That's including the shipping. That's not to bad.
It sounds fascinating. So I just have to wait till it blooms to see the real color i guess.

Yes, 6.50 Euro including shipping is cheap! Good Deal!

Sometimes half the fun is waiting to see what will bloom. I have a lot of seedlings too - mostly catts, but I do have a few Vanda seedlings that I bought - not as cheap as that....

I had the luck that I was the only one that did place a bid I guess. And the plant looks very nice. So it sure was a good deal. I have some more Vanda seedlings, and I did pay much more for them. Althou I did get them from an auction.

I know what you mean. Everytime I go on Ebay I see something nice. I better stop going on Ebay. The plant does look nice.

I love shopping for orchids on eBay...it's so much easier than going to lots and lots of orchid vendors websites. You can find a huge variety that way. I have a few favorite sellers who have had some very nice plants.

But not all the vendors in the world are on ebay. So sometimes you just have to go elsewhere. I wish there was an easy way to do an internet search to query orchid vendors to find specific plants for sale.

Jessica - the awards I was talking about are from the AOS (American Orchid Society) and people register and bring their plants to a show to be judged by accredited judges - and their awards are then published - along with the plant information on the AOS website. I have a program which has some of these awards, so I can go look at what the awards say (in some cases).

Katherine - I answered your queery on another post.. but here is the link again in case you don't see that one... The Ultimate Nursery Search Engine! (made by a Geek here on the forum - wish I could remember who it was...)

Google Custom Search - Orchid Nurseries
