photos of 4/10/08 arrivals

Photo one is Den Cathy Beck on the left, Enc. Atronecium 'Mother's Day' x Enc. cordigera 'Chocolate Violets' on the right, and Slc India Rose Sherwood 'Red Face' on the right front.

Photo two is Den Red Emperor 'Prince' on the left and Blc. Chia Lin 'New City' on the right.

I just stuck their pots into some clay pots to hold them upright. I'm still working up the courage to re-pot them.

They look good! I'm going to post my photos in the next couple of days. It's exciting, isn't it?

Thanks. I hope I can keep them alive long enough to see them bloom!

I decided I'd better just get up the nerve and re-pot them, so here is what they look like now.

Here are the dens, Den Cathy Beck on right and Den Red Emperor 'Prince' on left. I'm worried that I put Cathy Beck in too small a pot, but I have read here not to overpot. It came in a 2" square and it is now in a 2 1/2" round clay pot. Do you think I should re-do it? I'm worried it will dry out quickly.

The cats, Blc. Chia Lin 'New City' on right and Slc India Rose Sherwood 'Kiilani' on left. I re-read the tag and it says 'Kiilani,' not 'Red Face.'

and

Enc. Atronecium 'Mother's Day' x Enc. cordigera 'Chocolate Violets'

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated, since I think I am in over my head (newbie!).

I'm new to growing dens myself, so this is just my opinion (and anybody with more experience, please correct me if I stick my foot in my mouth...) I think that you should leave that Cathy Beck right where it is for now. However,I think they grow pretty fast-- the pot does look a bit small and I'd plan on moving it in a few months. I am putting my C.B. in a similar size pot for now, but plan on moving it to a vanda basket as soon as it is a little bigger Just my opinion...good growing

I might try staking your Den Red Emperor 'Prince' a little more upright. The new growth will grow upwards in time. If you are growing it in a window sill, point the new growth inwards, away from the light.

Thank you for the staking suggestion. I'll see what I can do to make it better.

Nobile dens need to be staked as they grow.
