I've found that in order to bloom well my brassavola likes to be very tight in the pot. When I do repot, I just move it up to a slightly larger pot and don't disturb the roots, as the plant sulks for months if I do. I give it lots of bright light and water more often since the pot is filled with more roots than medium.
