| If you are (and it sounds like it) planting a new (younger) plant, I've read that you shouldn't do much pruning for the first year or two. Let it get out and braid it onto your trellis. After that, well I still need to figure out if there is a preferential pruning time and technique. Have a place to check, will advise later.
