| Grammatophyllum elegans spikes arise from the base of a mature psuedobulb, as do new growths. So my speculation arises from the growth coming from the base. It may be tantamount to cymbidium spikes which look similar to a new growth at first but as the spike matures, this initial growth turns out to be semi leafy coverings on the spike where the buds develop underneath. I've done homework, but haven't found an answer, hence the reason why I decided to post-thought it would be interesting since, on many occassions I've browsed the forum to find similar postings. I'm leaning towards new growth. What about you?
