| If you think you might loose more leaves and roots and if the plant is not healthy I think it would be better to cut the spike off to let the plant use up that energy. You can always put the spike in water the flowers may last for a few days longer. Do you have a picture you can post? you can post as an attachment that we can have a good look at it.
