Nice find, Kevin.

It's interesting that this plant ever got hung with the Epicat name. The name Encyclia tampensis was published in 1913 by John K. Small (moving the plant from Epidendrum (Lindl., 1847) where it was known as tampense). The cross being discussed here was registered in 1963 by Stewarts. It seems that plenty of time had passed since the Encyclia tampensis name was published to register the cross as Cty, but the records show that the name was once Epicattleya and there is no date to show when it became Catyclia.

Stewarts must have registered the plant incorrectly and a change required later but no mention is made of this change or its date.
