Yep, that happens sometimes with the moss. I had the same thing yesterday when I did a repot. I got it all cleaned up, and I was really concerned about this black bit near the center, and I got out the tweezers, and it was old moss. Once I pulled it away, the plant looked fine. They suck the life right out of that stuff. Be sure to trim anything black and squishy.
