| Personally, I avoid damaging the mother cane too much when removing keiki's. When the root system is sufficiently developed (>2" for most species) I twist the keiki around the axis of the join like a propeller until it breaks free. This breaks the keiki at a natural join and avoids cutting into the parent cane. |
