Also the plant needs a cooling to flower. It should have a 20 degree temperature drop from day to night with night temperatures around 50 or lower. I have frozen them into the low 20s without even having a bud drop.
They can easily take 10,000 foot candles of light but I have also flowered them in under 4000. |
Of course and I should have mentioned this as well. I stop fertilising now until at least September when it starts to warm up. I know that they will flower at lower light levels but it seems that the best results with flowering up and down the cane would come with maximum possible light. Of course you will still get flowers even at lower light levels.
The Upin Red I have has never actually flowered, I've had success recently with a Don Thompson. I think also my minimum temps here are a little too cool for the plant to flower properly.
