Hello from Scotland

Hello everyone, I'm Uko from Edinburgh, Scotland.

I've been collecting orchids ever since my partner gave me one as a present three and a half years ago. As I am a poor student I grow my orchids in the house and unfortunately for them they just have to put up with the conditions.

So far so good. I have 6 phal and 1 cym, all of which have survived a recent move of house. However, our lack of central heating is concerning me and therefore I have recently purchased a new warming pad to help the phal in particular.

I managed to badly the damage my original orchid by leaving it in direct sunlight and probably overwatering it. However, I removed the burnt leaves and repotted it, removing all but 1 of the roots as they were rotten. Two years down the line it still seems to be alive and has three lovely new leaves on it. Having said that I've not seen any signs of growth for a while; nevertheless as growing season begins I hope for some more activity.

I've repotted two other of my orchids within the last year, neither of which show any signs of growing flower stems (I was told to remove any flower stems before repotting), but once again I live in hope.

Well that's a potted history of my orchid collection.

Here's to many years of orchid growing to come and being able to eventually have my own greenhouse!

Uko
