| The conditions you describe are OK for enjoying your orchid while blooming, but office/schoolroom lighting is not bright enough for orchids. Northern exposure likewise is generally not enough light for orchids either. As nenella notes, "usually" phals only yellow one leaf at a time (the bottom one). I suspect she is also on the right track in suggesting the root condition might be involved in the problem. What is is planted in? How often do you water it? Often times they have compromised root systems when they are acquired. It would probably be worthwhile to gently nudge it out of its pot and inspect the roots (you can replace it like it was if the roots are OK or repot a few days later if not). Roots should be firm and plump - usually tan, green or greyish. If they are soft, black, dark brown, stringy, etc. you need to remove all this type material when/if you repot. This can all be done even though it is still blooming. Let us know what you find and if you have any further questions. Good luck - mike |
