| My guess is that sphagnum, even the high-grade stuff, is something you either have a feeling for how to handle or you don't. Maybe you have to be born with it. I've tried it, following the rules (collected rain water, careful not to pack it too tightly), and the results have varied from mediocre to awful. So I stopped using it.
